What I Wish I Knew Before My First Business Trip

A tale from Casey, your loyal (but slightly traumatised) briefcase

‘My first business trip?
Let’s just say… it was a learning experience.

I packed like I was going backpacking.
I booked a hotel that turned out to be miles from the meeting.
I left no buffer time between landing and presenting.
And I forgot that international city tax charges are very real.

What I wish I’d known?

– That the travel part matters just as much as the business part.
– That where you stay affects how you show up.
– That delayed flights don’t care how important your meeting is.
– And that trying to juggle bookings, logistics, and last-minute changes while still trying to do your actual job… is exhausting.

These days, I travel a bit differently.

Now, I’ve got Principal managing the logistics.
Someone who books me the right hotel (not just the cheapest one), gets me there on time, keeps things flexible, and even remembers my seat preference.

Business travel doesn’t have to be chaotic either.

If you’re just starting out with business trips, take it from me:
Don’t do it all yourself.’

At Principal, we help people travel smarter, calmer, and with far fewer airport meltdowns.
